Six games into the season, Dallas has already burned through most of its margin for error.
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott described the mood as “determined, and I would hope urgent” after back-to-back defeats dropped the club to 2-4. A trip to face the Philadelphia Eagles awaits on Oct. 26.
Prescott doesn’t think Dallas can keep banking on the calendar.
“We can only say we’ve got a lot of games in front of us for so long. Might be already past us, right? We’ve got to go win,” Prescott said.
“When you drop two games, and particularly games that we didn’t expect to drop, it makes it that much harder. So urgent, urgent to get it done now,” he added.
The standings offer some cover. ESPN Analytics still lists Dallas as the NFC East favorite, at 68%.

Atop the division, the New York Giants are 3-2-1 but will start J.J. McCarthy. Philadelphia, also 2-4, won’t have quarterback Jalen Hurts back before regular-season play wraps up because of blood clots.
At 1-4-1, the Washington Commanders bring up the rear.
Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb likes those odds.
“Anybody can win this division, so why not us?” Lamb said.
Opponents are scoring 26.5 points a week against Christian Parker’s group, 25th leaguewide, in his debut season as defensive coordinator. They’re piling up 382.5 yards, 30th, and Dallas sits dead last against the run at 149.8 yards.
Offensively, Dallas has managed 29 points across those losses, with the ground game stalled and big plays scarce, partly because of shaky blitz pickup.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who calls the plays, has taken heat for an offense that ranked among the NFL’s best last season and brought everyone back for 2026.
Lincoln Financial Field doesn’t scare Prescott, who loves quieting the crowd there or “getting them to boo their team.” A win on Oct. 26 would lift Dallas to 3-4 and drop Philadelphia to 2-5.
