International visitor arrivals through Cambodia’s Techo International Airport fell by 11% to 4.55 million over the year from September 2025 to September 2026, according to figures cited by China’s Xinhua news agency.
Xinhua reported the figures on October 20, 2026, quoting Cambodia’s State Secretariat of Civil Aviation.
Passenger flights also declined. Nearly 47,000 flights were recorded between January and September 2026, down 2%. Air cargo, however, rose by 18% over the same period to almost 80,000 tonnes.
Civil aviation spokesperson Sin Chansereyvutha said 35 airlines operate at Techo International Airport, including 31 foreign carriers and four domestic airlines.
The airport connects Cambodia with destinations across Southeast Asia, East Asia, South Asia and West Asia.
Thong Mengdavid, deputy director of the China ASEAN Studies Centre at the Cambodia University of Technology and Science, attributed the decline to sluggish economic growth, global crises and inflation.
Thong Mengdavid said pressure on disposable incomes, the money people have available after taxes, had also contributed to weaker demand.
Thong Mengdavid expects passenger traffic to recover gradually as economic growth improves in 2027.
