The African Union Commission has condemned an attack carried out by Houthi rebels on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday.
The attack reportedly claimed 12 people’s lives and injured more than 300 others.
In a statement on Monday, the AU Commission expressed solidarity with the people and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
“The commission expresses its solidarity with the government and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, extends its condolences to the bereaved families and countries concerned, and wishes the injured a speedy recovery,” the statement said.
The commission restated that civilians and civilian infrastructure must be protected under international law and must never be targeted.
It called for an immediate cessation of attacks and urgent de-escalation to prevent further escalation and safeguard regional peace and security.
