When Jordan Mason was placed on IR with a thumb injury, fans worried about the run game, as Minnesota would need to lean on Aaron Jones Sr. to carry the workload. However, Jones has stepped up his game and is arguably playing some of the best football of his career, which this offense has needed so far this season.
Here are Jones' stats in the four weeks since Mason went down with his thumb injury:
- Week two: 23 carries, 105 yards
- Week three: 22 touches, 92 yards
- Week four: 24 touches, 128 yards
- Week five: 28 touches, 117 yards, TD, FUM
Jones is averaging 24 touches for 110 yards per game during this stretch, which is one of the best stretches of play we may see all season long. Jones, turning 32 in the coming months, has turned back the clock in recent weeks. Jones has helped elevate this offense in recent weeks, which has had its struggles but has looked progressively better over the last two weeks.
With Mason potentially coming back for week seven, we will have to wait and see how this running back room shares snaps and touches. Mason may be eased back into action given how hot Jones has been.
