Abhishek Sharma continues to redefine aggressive batting in T20 Internationals, combining an extraordinary scoring rate with the ability to find solutions when opposition bowlers try to expose his weaknesses.
The India opener crossed the 2,000-run mark in T20Is during the third match against West Indies in Indore on Sunday, and former India batter Ajinkya Rahane believes his ability to adapt without compromising his attacking intent makes him a special talent.Abhishek smashed 69 off just 30 deliveries to power India to a formidable total of 223 in the third T20I, helping the hosts take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
His innings featured explosive strokeplay, but Rahane was particularly impressed by the left-hander's approach against off-spinner Roston Chase, an area in which Abhishek has faced challenges previously.
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Rahane praised the youngster's ability to find different methods of scoring runs while maintaining his trademark aggression and high strike rate."See, he's a special talent. We were talking about him, his intent every single time.
What I like about Abhishek Sharma is his finding methods to score runs. If he's struggling with a particular area, he will find a way, find that different method to score runs without losing that intent, without losing that strike rate, I mean," Rahane said.
Abhishek Sharma's ability to adapt impresses Rahane
Abhishek's approach against Chase in Indore offered a glimpse of the adaptability Rahane highlighted. Rather than immediately taking on the off-spinner, the left-hander initially played a few deliveries cautiously before switching gears in the third over, striking two sixes and a boundary through the off-side.The adjustment allowed Abhishek to counter the challenge without abandoning his natural attacking instincts, underlining why Rahane considers his batting approach particularly impressive. Abhishek boasts a T20I strike rate of 195.95, the highest among batters who have faced at least 250 deliveries in the format.Rahane also highlighted the remarkable consistency behind the opener's aggressive style, pointing to his ability to maintain a scoring rate close to 200 across his international career."We see his strike rate throughout his career so far is close to 200. And the consistency is so amazing. (He is) the fastest player or batter to score 2000 runs in T20 format, which is something amazing," Rahane added.

The third T20I against West Indies marked another significant milestone in Abhishek's rapidly growing international career. He became the fastest batter to reach 2,000 T20I runs in terms of balls faced, taking just 1,024 deliveries to reach the landmark.
Abhishek is currently ranked No. 2 in the ICC men's T20I batting rankings, having previously occupied the top spot.He also continued his remarkable six-hitting run in 2026. His 69-run knock against West Indies took his tally to 68 sixes in the calendar year, equalling Suryakumar Yadav's record for the most sixes by a batter from a Full Member nation in men's T20Is in a calendar year.
