The 10th Chalachitram National Film Festival will begin on Saturday at Jyoti Chitraban in Kahilipara, bringing together filmmakers, critics and cinema enthusiasts for a two-day celebration of Indian culture and heritage.
The festival, scheduled for October 24 and 25, will feature 45 selected short films across competitive and non-competitive screening sections. Organised by Chalachitram, a subsidiary of Vishwa Samvad Kendra-Assam, the event will be held under the theme ‘Our Heritage, Our Pride’.
National Award-winning filmmaker Dr Santwana Bardoloi will inaugurate the festival on Saturday morning.
The films have been selected by a preview committee comprising filmmaker Jhulan Krishna Mahanta, veteran filmmaker Bibhu Dutta, cinematographer Hiten Thakuria, sound engineer Dipak Dutta and singer Babita Sharma.
A jury comprising artistes, critics and filmmakers has selected the winning entries in eight categories. The winners will receive trophies, certificates and cash prizes at the festival.
State Cabinet Minister Nilima Devi will attend the valedictory ceremony scheduled for Sunday afternoon, along with other dignitaries and members of the film fraternity.
As part of the run-up to the festival, screening programmes were organised at Nirmal Haloi College in Patacharkuchi and Nalbari College. Students watched award-winning short films and documentaries selected from the previous year's festival.
A special screening of ‘Bhupen Da Uncut’, directed by filmmaker Bobbeeta Sharma, will also be held during the event as a tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika on the occasion of his birth centenary.
A souvenir titled ‘Chalachitram’, edited by senior film journalist Hemchandra Doley, will be released during the festival.
The details were shared by Vishwa Samvad Kendra-Assam secretary Kishor Shivam, CNFF-2026 president Nava Thakuria, and secretary Bhagawat Pritam.
