There are not many who can pull off a puffy bustle. In modern fashion history, there are only a few successful cases that come to mind. There was the lime-green satin miniskirt with a white bustle around back that Carrie Bradshaw wore in season four of Sex and the City. There was Zendaya’s vintage, striped Vivienne Westwood set replete with a puffy tail that she wore on the Challengers press tour. Now, with Ayo Edebiri’s look, three makes a list.
Last night, at the 70th BFI London Film Festival, Edebiri embraced the “business in the front, party in the back” mantra with a back-heavy, two-tone look pulled from the Chanel Spring/Summer 2026 haute couture collection, designed by Matthieu Blazy.

Look 35 from the Chanel Spring/Summer 2026 haute couture collection.
From the front, the silhouette was deceptively streamlined. It consisted of a cream, sleeveless tank cut with tiers of fringe along the bottom, culminating in a single layer of contrasting black trim; and it was layered over an inky midi pencil skirt.
But around back, the bottom of Edebiri’s top curved outward into a dramatic bustle that added a majestic, almost mythological effect, as if Edebiri were about to sprout wings and float away.

Since beginning his tenure as creative director of Chanel back in December 2024, Blazy has brought an inimitable flair to the storied French fashion house, delivering a sense of whimsy and panache to the traditional ladylike designs that have defined the brand for years.
And since the set made a statement all its own, Edebiri’s stylist, Danielle Goldberg, opted to accessorize the look merely with a set of plain black sandal heels, adding a pair of dangly red-and-green pendant earrings, also from Chanel, for a tiny pop of color.
This look is going straight into the bustle hall of fame.
