A British woman admitted Friday to stabbing her three young children to death while in the throes of “acute psychosis” in a case eerily similar to killer mom Lindsay Clancy.
Former nurse Yasmeen Ali, 44, was initially charged with three counts of murder for the 2024 slaughter of her kids Fares Bash, 7, Joury Bash, 3, and 9-month-old baby Mohammed Bash, just six days after she had been released from a psychiatric hospital in Bristol, England, according to the Sun.
But she reached a deal that instead saw her pleading guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility after experts testified she was suffering “acute psychosis.”
After stabbing her kids in their chests and necks, Ali slashed her own neck — and was found in a “very disturbed state, looking like a zombie,” according to the disturbing reports.
The mom wept in court Friday as she was sentenced to stay indefinitely at a secure psychiatric hospital by a judge who accepted that her horrific act was “almost entirely attributable to mental disorder.”
“It is my view you would not have done what you have if you were well,” Judge Thomas Linden told the mom during her sentencing.
The judge even offered his “condolences” to the mom and her husband for failings of local mental health services, the Bristol Post reported.
“As the victim personal statement clearly demonstrates, what has happened is a tragedy from which neither of you will recover and which causes both of you unimaginable pain in your daily lives,” Linden said at sentencing.
The case is strikingly similar to that of Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mom who strangled her three young children in 2023 before attempting to kill herself by jumping out of a second-story window.
Clancy’s defense similarly blamed it on mental illness and postpartum psychosis.
Prosecutors still insisted on trying her for murder, which ended in a mistrial with all but one of the jurors accepting her defense of psychosis.
Prosecutors were expected to decide at a hearing next month if they would retry her for murder, file downgraded charges, or drop the case altogether.
