DAEJEON — Yoo Chun-sung, a mathematics professor and graduate school dean at Hannam University, has been named for the second consecutive year to the World's Top 2% Scientists list compiled by researchers at Stanford University and the global academic publisher Elsevier.
Yoo was selected for the second straight year under the career-long category, which assesses a researcher's lifetime output and international academic influence.
The career-long measure evaluates citation records and scholarly impact accumulated across a researcher's entire career rather than performance in a single year. It is regarded as significant because it reflects sustained research activity and academic contributions over an extended period.
Yoo had previously been named a top 2% scientist in the single-year category, which measures academic influence in a specific year. He was listed under general mathematics, a subfield of mathematics and statistics.
Yoo has conducted research for many years across a range of mathematical fields, including numerical analysis, functional analysis, differential equations, dynamical systems and special functions. He has contributed to the advancement of the discipline through papers published in international journals and through editorial work for academic journals.
"I find it meaningful that the results of mathematical research I have steadily pursued over a long period have been recognized," Yoo said. "I will continue to take on academic challenges as a researcher."
