When Milwaukee Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski throws the first pitch of the 2026 World Series, all eyes will be on the presumed favorite for the National League Cy Young Award – but perhaps also on the radar-gun reading.
Misiorowski's penchant for cheese has made him perfect for Wisconsin. Though advanced pitch tracking only goes back to 2008, it's believed he's the fastest-throwing man on the planet.
Here's more to know about Misiorowski's blazing 2026 season:
What's the fastest pitch Misiorowski has thrown this year?
He threw 105.5 mph on June 26 against Pete Crow-Armstrong, a pitch the Chicago Cubs star fouled off in the top of the first inning on an 0-2 count.
His second-fastest pitch came in the playoffs when he threw 104.8 mph for a called strike on the first pitch of the game to the San Diego Padres' Fernando Tatis Jr. in Game 1 of the National League Division Series.
According to MLB stats guru Sarah Langs, there have only been nine postseason pitches tracked (since 2008) at 104 mph or greater, and Misiorowski has thrown seven of them.
Langs also noted that Misiorowski has thrown 154 pitches of 100 mph or greater in his postseason career. That's the second-most since tracking began in 2008, behind Aroldis Chapman.
What does Jacob Misiorowski average on his fastball?
He has thrown 1,677 four-seam fastballs this year, and they average 100.6 mph.
According to Statcast, he's in the 100th percentile for fastball velocity and 99th for fastball spin and expected ERA.
Of the 4,177 pitches Misiorowski has thrown in his big-league career, 1,482 were at least 100 mph (35%).
Of the 2,518 four-seamers he has thrown, 1,480 hit at least 100 mph (59%). His other two 100-mph pitches registered as sinkers.
How often does Jacob Misiorowski throw 104 mph or faster?
According to Langs, his 30 pitches of 104 mph or greater are the second most in a career behind Chapman (71). Again, pitch tracking began in 2008.
How many other pitchers have thrown 104 mph in the past two seasons?
Three others, and they're all relievers. Padres reliever Mason Miller has cleared 104 mph on seven pitches since the start of 2025, counting playoffs. Ben Joyce of the Los Angeles Angels has done it four times. Edgardo Henriquez of the Los Angeles Dodgers has done it twice. Miz has done it 30 times.
Other stats to know
- Misiorowski's strikeout rate (37.9%) is the second-highest for a full season, behind only Gerrit Cole (39.9%) in 2019.
- His WHIP of 0.80 is the second-best among qualified pitchers over a full season in the live-ball era, behind only Pedro Martinez in 2000 (0.74).
- He's one of three pitchers ever to post a 250-strikeout season and a 0.80 WHIP or lower.
- Among starting pitchers, Misiorowski has thrown the fastest strikeout pitch in tracked MLB history, a 104.5-mph offering to Kyle Karros of the Colorado Rockies on July 26. He's also thrown each of the next 39 fastest strikeout pitches.
