The countdown to Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6 is nearly over. Rockstar recently reaffirmed that the blockbuster title will launch on November 19, 2026. With just over a month left until release day, millions of players are getting ready. However, not every gamer will get to play GTA 6 on day one. Currently, Rockstar has only confirmed the game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S at launch. Meanwhile, the developer plans to release a GTA 6 PC port on a later, unannounced release date.
Releasing new games on consoles first is standard practice for Rockstar. Previous hits like Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 5 and Red Dead Redemption (RDR) 2 followed this exact pattern. Consequently, PC players usually wait one to two years for new Rockstar titles to hit their platform. Up until now, GTA 6 seemed ready to follow that same slow timeline. However, a recent report suggests that the GTA 6 PC release date could arrive much sooner than fans expect.
Expected GTA 6 PC Port Release Date
According to recent reports, Rockstar plans to launch GTA 6 on PC in the first quarter (Q1) 2027. Therefore, the PC port could land within the first three months of the new year. Industry insiders familiar with Rockstar’s launch plans contributed to this report. Specifically, these insiders claim that Rockstar is planning a very quick turnaround for the PC version. On the other hand, the report shared no details regarding the online component of GTA 6.
Traditionally, the main audience for the Grand Theft Auto series plays on consoles. In fact, Sony has already touted that GTA 6 plays best on the PS5 Pro. Nevertheless, the franchise still boasts a massive player base on PC. Furthermore, a dedicated GTA modding scene has kept titles like GTA 5 thriving long after their initial launch. Because of this community, the GTA 6 PC port remains a highly anticipated release, even if it arrives several months after the console version.
If this report proves accurate, GTA 6 will feature a much shorter gap between its console and PC launches than previous Rockstar titles:
| Game | Console Launch Date | PC Launch Date |
| GTA 5 | September 17, 2013 | April 14, 2015 |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 26, 2018 | November 5, 2019 |
How an Early PC Launch Could Ease Console Price Hikes
Additionally, a fast turnaround for the GTA 6 PC release date could cool down surging console prices. Massive demand for GTA 6 has recently triggered steep hardware markups. For instance, GameStop recently started selling used PS5 Pro consoles for $500 above the MSRP of a brand-new unit. The retailer is capitalizing on GTA 6 hype and fans who are willing to buy a PS5 just to play the game on November 19.
Ultimately, this Q1 2027 rumor offers great news for budget-conscious PC gamers. If PC players wait just a few extra months for GTA 6 to hit their platform, they can avoid overpriced consoles altogether. As a result, holding out until early 2027 could save PC gamers a significant amount of money.
