AC Milan boss Ruben Amorim was given an unwelcome Manchester United reminder on Thursday by Bournemouth fans, as he and his players were beaten 3-0 in the Europa League.
Nightmare return
Amorim endured an awful return to England as Bournemouth put his AC Milan team to the sword at the Vitaity Stadium.
Milan were reduced to 10 men when goalkeeper Mike Maignan was sent off in the first half for a double-handed push into the face of midfielder Tyler Adams.
Amorim was left red-faced by an embarrassing moment when he attempted to replace the French goalkeeper without withdrawing an outfield player.
The Cherries raced to a two-goal lead courtesy of penalty strikes from Justin Kluivert and Marcus Tavernier. Amine Adli converted a sensational free-kick in the second half to round off the scoring.
His Serie A form may be impressive, yet on the European stage it is a very different tale, with Amorim and Milan stuck down in 24th in the Europa League.
And Bournemouth fans rubbed salt into Amorim’s wounds with a savage United taunt.
United jibe
During the closing stages of the contest, Bournemouth fans started chanting “Ruben Amorim, it’s happened again!”
It served as a stark reminder of the 3-0 hammering Bournemouth handed United while Amorim was at the helm.
Amorim faced Bournemouth on two occasions, failing to win both times. United were beaten 3-0 at Old Trafford in December 2024, before playing out a thrilling 4-4 draw a year later.
Apparently seeing the funny side, the Portuguese coach allowed himself a small smile.
Bournemouth will be eager to pile further misery on United this weekend when they make their way to Old Trafford. Michael Carrick is under massive pressure to oversee a victory, as pressure mounts on him.
