Kohima, October 16: The Kohima Bar Association (KBA) has urged the Nagaland Government to take immediate action against the alleged unauthorised collection of land-related charges by certain Village Councils across the state.
In a representation to the government, the Association said some Village Councils had been issuing documents described as land pattas and imposing compulsory fees for renewal, transfer and patta issuance, despite the absence of specific provisions authorising such practices under the Nagaland Village and Tribal Councils Act, 1978.
The KBA has called for intervention to address the issue and ensure that land administration practices comply with the existing legal framework.
It also stressed the need for greater uniformity and legal certainty in land administration across Nagaland, highlighting the importance of clear guidelines to prevent unauthorised charges and ensure consistent practices throughout the state.
