KUALA LUMPUR: Police are tracking down the driver of a black Porsche Cayenne caught on dashcam footage driving recklessly, chasing another motorist and attempting to force the vehicle to stop in Bandar Kinrara.
The incident occurred near a Shell petrol station in Bandar Kinrara 3 on Sunday and has since gone viral on social media, drawing concern over the driver's behaviour.
Federal Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (TEID) director Datuk Seri Mohammed Hasbullah Ali said police had opened an investigation after footage of the incident was shared on the Dashcam Owners Malaysia Facebook page.
The post, titled "The infamous Porsche Cayenne in Puchong & Kinrara", featured several photographs and dashcam recordings of the black SUV.
It also warned other motorists to exercise caution if they encountered the vehicle.
Hasbullah said initial investigations found that the incident occurred around 2.15pm on Oct 18 along a three-lane road near Bandar Kinrara 3.
"The car with the dashcam was travelling from Puchong towards Bukit Jalil in the leftmost lane when the Porsche Cayenne attempted to change lanes without signalling.
"The driver sounded the horn after noticing the Porsche attempting to move into the lane without indicating.
"The driver then accelerated, prompting the Porsche driver to give chase," he said.
Hasbullah said the situation escalated when the Porsche driver allegedly applied the brakes in an attempt to force the other vehicle to stop.
The Porsche was also seen obstructing the other motorist's path, he added.
Police are working to identify the Porsche driver and locate witnesses who may have seen the incident.
Investigators are also examining available closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and dashcam recordings to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Hasbullah said police had received a report from the dashcam vehicle's driver on Oct 18 and he would be called in to have his statement recorded.
A separate police report concerning the viral video was lodged by a traffic investigating officer from the Serdang district police headquarters at 9.58pm on Oct 19.
Checks revealed that the Porsche Cayenne was registered to a company, while the identity of the person driving it at the time of the incident has yet to be established.
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless and dangerous driving.
