Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Barcelona renew their rivalry on Tuesday in a high-profile Round 3 clash of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League league phase at the Parc des Princes.
PSG host their Catalan rivals in a meeting between two sides that have collected six points from their opening two matches. Both teams will look to maintain their perfect starts and strengthen their positions in the league-phase standings.
PSG opened their Champions League campaign on a bright note, thrashing Slovan Bratislava 6-1 before securing a 4-2 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Barcelona have also impressed, beating Feyenoord 5-1 in their opening match before recording a 4-1 away win over Galatasaray. Hansi Flick’s side arrive in Paris on the back of a 5-2 LaLiga victory over Real Betis.
The encounter will see two attack-minded teams against each other, with their contrasting approaches to possession and attacking play likely to determine the contest.
PSG’s attacking threat
Luis Enrique’s side head into the fixture on the back of six consecutive wins in all competitions and have shown a tendency to start quickly, opening the scoring in six of their last seven matches.
Across their first two Champions League fixtures, PSG have scored 10 goals and conceded three, registering 50 shots, including 24 on target. They have also created 11 big chances, although six went unconverted.
Their average possession of 59 per cent and pass accuracy of 89 per cent underline their ability to control the tempo before releasing runners into dangerous attacking positions.
However, PSG’s defensive record offers Barcelona a potential opening. The French champions have yet to keep a clean sheet during this run and have allowed 13 shots on target in their opening two European matches.
Barcelona’s possession advantage
Barcelona arrive in Paris with considerable attacking momentum and a strong record of controlling possession under Flick.
The Catalans have scored nine goals and conceded twice in their opening two Champions League matches, registering 46 shots, including 20 on target.
Barcelona’s ability to dominate possession could test PSG’s defensive organisation, while their attacking quality gives them the capacity to exploit gaps when the hosts commit players forward.
With both teams boasting impressive attacking numbers and maximum points from their opening fixtures, the clash promises to be a significant early test of their credentials in the competition.
