An XRP Ledger cleanup amendment is moving toward activation later this week, but the network’s proposed lending system remains inactive. The distinction separates support for correcting transaction behavior from approval to switch on a new lending feature.
The amendment dashboard reviewed Monday showed 29 of 35 listed validators supporting fixCleanup3_4_0, above the required majority. The same dashboard showed 19 supporting LendingProtocol and 21 supporting SingleAssetVault, leaving those separate amendments below the threshold.
The cleanup amendment’s majority period began October 9. If support holds, its two-week waiting period ends October 23, with activation following the relevant ledger process. The projected date is conditional on continuing support, not an unconditional launch appointment.
A software release does not switch on every feature
XRP Ledger operators install server software that can contain code for multiple changes. The network’s amendment process separately determines when supported transaction-rule changes become active. Having code available in a release and having an amendment enabled are different stages.
The official version 3.4.0 release describes a range of fixes and enhancements. A cleanup amendment can correct behavior in code associated with other features without granting those features independent approval to operate on the live network.
That is why a headline about lending-code repairs can be misleading if it suggests borrowers can already take out native loans. Correcting how a proposed system should behave is preparation for possible use, not evidence of actual loan originations or deposits.
The majority must persist
The amendment mechanism requires more than a momentary favorable count. A change must retain the required validator majority through a waiting period before activation. Votes can change, so a dashboard projection needs to be read together with its underlying status.
At the reviewed count, the cleanup amendment had crossed that line; lending and the vault mechanism had not. A scheduled software-maintenance milestone therefore cannot be used as a substitute for watching their own votes.
The vault and lending proposals also have different functions. A structure for pooling or administering assets is not the same as a complete credit arrangement. Both the relevant network rules and the applications built around them matter to any eventual service.
No automatic yield for XRP holders
Nothing in the cleanup vote establishes a return for simply holding XRP. A token balance does not become a loan, a deposit or an entitlement to interest because validators approve a patch.
Any future lending product would need to specify its actual assets, parties, repayment terms and risks. The network’s ability to process a transaction cannot establish that a borrower will repay it or that a provider guarantees a yield.
The next meaningful milestones are confirmation that the cleanup amendment has activated and separate evidence of sustained majority support for the lending-related amendments. Until then, the accurate description is a pending repair alongside an unactivated lending proposal.
