Google is bringing Gemini’s Personal Intelligence feature to Android Auto. The feature, introduced on October 20, 2026, provides personalized answers by accessing information from connected Google apps.
The update aims to improve the assistant's usability by letting drivers find information without manually searching through emails, photos, or saved places.
Gemini Connects Information Across Google Apps
Personal Intelligence lets Gemini access information from apps like Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Photos, Google Maps, YouTube, and Google Search, with users’ permission.
It can extract detailed information from emails, photographs, and saved places, and combine it with information from several sources to answer more complex queries.
For instance, people going to an airport can find their gate and whether the flight is on time. Instead of looking for answers separately in a confirmation email and flight data, they can find everything in one place. The AI assistant can also suggest restaurants based on the user’s preferences.
Natural Voice Commands Make Driving Easier
Google says Personal Intelligence allows drivers to make requests naturally without having to provide every detail.
Users can ask Gemini to navigate to a doctor’s appointment using information already available in their calendar. They can also ask the assistant to locate a car wash seen in a photograph taken the previous week or find a coffee shop discussed in an earlier conversation.
Through this feature, Google aims to reduce the need to handle a phone or search manually while driving.

Privacy Controls Remain with Users
Personal Intelligence is optional and requires users to connect their apps. Users can turn the feature on or off through Gemini settings.
Those who choose not to use it can still use Android Auto for navigation, music, calls, and general questions, but responses will not be personalized using their connected app information.
For vehicles with Google built in, personalized responses will be available when the user’s phone is connected to the car.
The feature is rolling out globally to eligible personal Google accounts for users aged 18 and older, excluding the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Nigeria. Workspace business, enterprise, and education accounts are not eligible.
Google’s move brings more contextual AI assistance to cars while keeping users in control of whether to connect their personal information.
