Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is set to undergo surgery after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during the club’s 4-2 Champions League victory over Barcelona on Tuesday.
PSG confirmed the Georgian international’s injury on Wednesday after he was forced off shortly before the hour mark.
The 25-year-old twisted his knee while tracking back to challenge Barcelona’s Xavi Espart and was helped off the pitch after being unable to put weight on his right leg.
Although PSG have not announced an official recovery timeline, the severity of the injury means Kvaratskhelia is likely to miss the remainder of the 2026-27 season.
The injury represents a major setback for the French champions, who are top of the Champions League standings after winning their opening three matches.
Kvaratskhelia was not the only PSG player to suffer an injury during the victory over Barcelona.
Ousmane Dembele was forced off in the 19th minute with a thigh injury, while defender Marquinhos was also substituted after sustaining a similar injury.
