What do an American beach bar, a Canadian Olympic boxer and Halloween have in common? No, this isn’t the beginning of a joke, although it could be!
Mack, the American owner of Mack’s on the Beach in Benalmádena, happens to be the cousin of Tom Glesby, the Canadian boxer who competed in the 1988 Seoul and 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. And now, an American-owned bar with a Canadian Olympic connection is preparing to host a Halloween celebration organised by the Canadian community in Spain.
You couldn’t make it up!
Dear friends, Halloween is, without question, my favourite party of the year. And what could be better than watching two longtime North American neighbours and friends leave their differences to the politicians and come together to celebrate a proper Halloween bash on the Spanish coast?
Natalia, president of the Canadian Association in Spain, is preparing a spooky spectacular: Halloween by the Sea, taking place at Mack’s on the Beach at 7 pm on October 31.
Expect a monster mash, a best-costume competition, tarot readings, DJ music, games, prizes and plenty of surprises. In other words, all the ingredients for a night when looking frightening is not only acceptable but positively encouraged.
And here’s the best part: our Canadian friends are welcoming everyone! Brits, Spaniards, Americans and every other nationality are invited. Singles, couples, families and even dogs are welcome. Bring your carved pumpkins, unleash your inner monster and prepare to dance as if nobody is watching. Although, in some costumes, people probably won’t be able to tell who you are anyway.
It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet people, make new friends and enjoy one of North America’s most entertaining traditions, right here in Spain. After all, Halloween has a remarkable ability to bring people together. When everyone is dressed as a vampire, witch or zombie, national differences suddenly seem rather insignificant.
And thank goodness for the costumes. Otherwise, some of us might not be allowed in!
So, if you fancy a little North American Halloween magic by the Mediterranean, don’t miss out. After all, how often do you get invited to a party where the Canadians promise to scare the living daylights out of everyone — including us Americans?
Save the date: October 31st at 7 PM, Mack’s on the Beach, Benalmádena!
Book your place by emailing Canadaenmalaga@gmail.com.
Come one, come all – even us Americans! It’s going to be spooktacular, and trust me, you don’t want to be the ghost who missed the party!
Trick or treat? I’ll take the treats, thank you. And perhaps a little Canadian Olympic spirit with my candy corn.
