OpenAI’s infrastructure and compute businesses have a new leader, Bloomberg reported Wednesday (Oct. 14).
The artificial intelligence company appointed its chief technology officer for compute, Uday Ruddarraju, to head both the infrastructure and compute businesses. The previous head of the infrastructure unit, Sachin Katti, will transition out of that role and remain an advisor, according to the report.
Ruddarraju, a former xAI executive, joined OpenAI in 2025 and became CTO for compute in July, the report said.

“Sachin has done an incredible job maintaining the commercial partnerships,” Ruddarraju told Bloomberg in an interview. Now, he said, “I have to spend more time on the commercial side.”
Katti said in a Wednesday post on LinkedIn that he’s decided to move on to build something new, that his last day at OpenAI will be Nov. 15 and that he will remain an advisor to the company after that.
“The past year has been extraordinary,” Katti said. “We secured double-digit gigawatts of new compute capacity across Ohio, Portsmouth, Georgia, Trainium and several other projects, working with incredible partners including Nvidia, Broadcom, AMD, Oracle, Microsoft, Google, AWS, Cerebras and Coreweave. We also got GPT-Infra off the ground taking it from an idea to a real business with customers and partners in just three months.”
GPT-Infra is a team that partners with technical and business leaders to turn AI advances into product and businesses, according to OpenAI’s website.
The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that Katti is leaving OpenAI after about a year, having joined it in late 2025, and that the company’s infrastructure unit has had a series of leadership changes.
The Bloomberg report said OpenAI has seen some other key executives leave its teams that are in charge of data center capacity. Chris Malone, who helped oversee the data center buildout, left the company in August. Peter Hoeschele, who played a key role in OpenAI’s Stargate infrastructure initiative, left for Meta earlier this year, per the report.
According to the WSJ report, OpenAI expects to spend about $750 billion on computing power through 2030. That projection is up from the $600 billion that was reported earlier this year, per the report.
