KNS Canada (BD) has suspended FibroScan-related services with Popular Diagnostic Centre Ltd, citing concerns over the use of unauthorised machines, improper calibration and uncertified operators at several of the diagnostic centre's branches.
The suspension took effect today (16 October), according to a statement issued by KNS Canada (BD). FibroScan services at other diagnostic centres across the country will continue, the company said.
According to the statement, information and relevant documents available to KNS indicated that several Popular Diagnostic Centre branches had been conducting tests using unauthorised FibroScan machines, inadequately calibrated equipment and operators without the required certification.
FibroScan is an important medical technology used to assess liver conditions. Ensuring reliable test results requires authorised equipment, appropriate technical arrangements, proper maintenance and calibration, and trained and qualified operators, the statement said.
KNS Canada (BD) said it had been involved in providing FibroScan technology services in Bangladesh since 2008 as the country's sole authorised and exclusive distributor.
The company said maintaining technical standards and professional reputation in coordination with the technology's French manufacturer, Echosens, remained a priority.
It cited concerns over the authorised use of FibroScan technology, test quality and compliance with relevant technical standards as the reasons for ending its association with Popular Diagnostic Centre.
From Friday, FibroScan tests conducted at Popular Diagnostic Centre will no longer have the approval, technical supervision or service-related support of KNS Canada (BD), the statement said.
It added that KNS Canada (BD) and Echosens would not accept responsibility for any errors, inconsistencies or technical problems in tests or reports produced through the centre's FibroScan services.
In the interest of patient safety and reliable test results, KNS Canada (BD) urged doctors, hospitals, diagnostic centres and patients to verify the authorisation of the equipment, calibration of the probes, and the training and qualifications of operators before undergoing FibroScan tests.
