"LThe season ended days ago for the Indiana Fever, but some of its leading figures are still processing a finish that came earlier than expected. Lexie Hull was one of them and used her social media to sum up what it meant to complete her fifth year with the franchise.
"Half a decade with Indiana Fever," Hull wrote alongside a carousel of photos from the season. The message was a reflection on her five years with the organization, but the tone of some of the replies made the post seem, at times, like a farewell.
Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston and the Fever react to Lexie Hull
Hull's teammates were quick to appear in the comments. Myisha Hines-Allen wrote "I already miss you", while Caitlin Clark replied with five pink hearts. Tyasha Harris left an "Lexxxxxx" accompanied by a heart.
Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston also took part. Mitchell used her teammate's nickname, "sexy lexi", while Boston wrote "I'm proud of you, sexyyyy lexiiii" Grace VanSlooten, Raven Johnson, and Monique Billings also joined in with messages.
Lexie Hull sparks controversy with 'dirty play'
The reaction makes sense because of the bond Hull has built with Indiana. The franchise selected her with the No. 6 pick in the 2022 Draft and since then she has played her entire WNBA career with the Fever.
In 2026, Hull started 41 games and averaged 5.2 points and 3.0 rebounds in 18.2 minutes per game.
The message doesn't mean Lexie Hull is leaving Indiana
Although the tone of the post may sound like a farewell, Hull is not saying goodbye to the Fever. Indiana agreed to a two-season contract extension with her worth around $1.6 million, so she is under contract through 2027.
What did come to an end was a season that left mixed feelings in Indianapolis. Indiana finished the regular season with a 28-16 record and placed sixth in the standings. In the playoffs, the Fever took their first-round series against the Las Vegas Aces to a third game, but were ultimately eliminated after losing 94-83.
Hull, therefore, has her continuity assured. The uncertainty lies in other pieces of the roster.
Sophie Cunningham, one of the pending decisions
The situation is especially interesting in the case of Sophie Cunningham, who faces an open future after her first full season with Indiana. Her continuity will be one of the decisions the franchise will have to address during the offseason.
Kelsey Mitchell's future, one of the team's main offensive references, also remains to be resolved as she enters free agency. Caitlin Clark herself publicly expressed her desire for Mitchell to remain in Indiana.
With Hull under contract through 2027, Clark and Aliyah Boston as central pieces, and several decisions still pending, Indiana faces an offseason with changes yet to be defined.
