Tension has gripped Agbarho in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State following the death of a couple in a domestic violence incident.
The husband, identified as Paul Okoh, a name the publication said was not his real name, allegedly killed his wife during a physical confrontation before reportedly taking his own life by drinking a substance identified as Sniper.
The incident reportedly left their four children behind, with the eldest said to be a boy aged about 21.
Daily Watch reported that the man was allegedly angered by claims that his wife was unfaithful and had transferred documents relating to his landed property into her name before selling the property to a prospective buyer in Agbarho.
A neighbour, who spoke to the publication at the couple’s residence on Owiri Street, said the couple had been separated because of repeated domestic violence and frequent physical confrontations over disagreements.
The neighbour, however, expressed surprise that their latest confrontation ended in the deaths of both spouses.
The deceased man’s elder brother, who declined to disclose his name or those of the deceased couple, expressed sadness over the incident, saying he did not know the immediate cause of the fight.
He said various situations could lead to confrontations within families and confirmed that his late brother had four children.
When contacted by Daily Watch, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, reportedly did not respond to phone calls and WhatsApp messages seeking comments before publication.
At the Agbarho Police Station, where the Divisional Police Officer, Michael Akpome, was reportedly unavailable, a senior police officer who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed the incident.
The officer said the police had evacuated the bodies to a morgue for further investigation.
He added that no formal complaint had been documented by the family as of the time of the report.
