KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has backed a proposal to rename Putrajaya Hospital after the late Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali in recognition of her contributions to the country's healthcare system.
He said Perikatan Nasional would pursue the proposal if it came to power and the current government had not implemented it.
"We can propose it. If the government doesn't do it, we'll do it next time," he said when debating the 2027 Budget at the policy stage in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Hamzah (PN-Larut) was responding to a proposal by Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (PN-Masjid Tanah) to name the hospital after the wife of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Mas Ermieyati said the move would be a fitting tribute to Dr Siti Hasmah.
Dr Siti Hasmah died at 100-years-old at the National Heart Institute on Sept 28 and was laid to rest at the Presint 20 Muslim Cemetery, Putrajaya.
