PUTRAJAYA: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail was conferred the title of Professor of Practice by Spectrum International University College (SIUC).
The title was presented to Khalid by SIUC chairman Tan Sri Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Mohamed Salleh Mohamed Yasin during the university's 26th convocation at the JW Marriott Hotel Putrajaya.
Khalid described the accolade as a significant milestone and an opportunity to bridge academic concepts with the realities of public service.
"During my tenure with the police force, I learned that true leadership is defined by service to others, not by rank.
"I look forward to sharing my insights to help develop future leaders and guide them as they move from the classroom to the professional world," he said.
Addressing the 2026 graduating class, Khalid said effective leadership required taking responsibility, making tough choices and prioritising integrity over authority.
"In public service, trust is our most valuable asset. We cannot demand or legislate trust; we must earn it through consistent action and strong character.
"While academic qualifications open doors, character ultimately determines trustworthiness."
Khalid cautioned graduates against ethical compromises, the temptation of quick financial gains and involvement in illegal activities, including cybercrime.
"Never let greed, peer pressure, or the promise of quick money jeopardise your future.
"Before making important decisions, ask whether the reward is worth risking your freedom, reputation, and others' trust.
"Choose honesty and responsibility, even when it is difficult."
He urged graduates to uphold three core principles throughout their careers: pursuing excellence, safeguarding personal integrity and serving the community.
"Malaysia needs not only skilled professionals, but also trustworthy leaders, responsible entrepreneurs, and dedicated citizens.
"Let us work for a Malaysia where opportunities are based on merit, integrity is central, and success is measured by our ability to uplift others."
