ALOR GAJAH: A total of 6,995 Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) training grant applications were approved in Melaka, covering 39,489 training places with financial assistance totalling RM37.03 million.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said improvements to HRD Corp's implementation system had strengthened governance and transparency to ensure training opportunities could be used by the intended groups.
He said refining the system required time to ensure implementation was more orderly and effective.
Ramanan said 24,729 participants had received training, while 7,734 claims worth RM30.14 million had been approved in Melaka.
"It is not easy to change a system to make its implementation more orderly, in line with good governance and more transparent. It takes quite a long time.
"We are grateful to the entire HRD Corp team for its efforts to implement these improvements," he told reporters after attending the HRD Corp 'Pocket Talk' roadshow programme, From Policy to the People, here today.
Also present was HRD Corp chief executive officer Datuk Shamir Aziz.
Ramanan said every training class funded by HRD Corp would be monitored by its officers, either in person at the venue or online, to ensure the training was conducted and benefited the public.
"We also encourage workers who want to upgrade their skills, graduates seeking jobs and individuals looking to build new careers to take advantage of these training opportunities," he said.
Separately, he said women could also benefit from training in caregiving, in line with the country's demographic shift towards an ageing population.
He said the need for caregivers must be addressed to meet future demand.
"As we move towards an ageing society, the most important thing we need is caregivers," he said.
