BI Phakathi, the anonymous South African good Samaritan known for changing strangers' lives on camera, did it again. On 20 October 2026, a video surfaced on Facebook showing him tracking down two young men in a store parking lot and loading up shopping trolleys with Checkers groceries before handing over cash.
The clip, filmed in a documentary-style follow-along format with on-screen captions, captured the raw, unscripted emotion of the encounter. The men were visibly shaken by the gesture. One of them, speaking directly to the camera, said the R6,000 cash would go towards clearing rent arrears, gas, and covering basic necessities. He was honest and unapologetic about it:
"I'm not lying about that one."
A message that stopped viewers in their tracks
What made the video resonate beyond the usual feel-good content was something one of the young men said in the moment. Speaking over the noise of the parking lot, he reflected on the timing of what had just happened, describing how out of nowhere something can remind you that you have not been forgotten by God. BI Phakathi's team loaded the groceries into an older vehicle, handed over the cash and said their goodbyes with warmth.
The caption posted alongside the video read:
"Listen carefully, there is a lesson in these words he spoke."
