The Assam government on Friday announced the recipients of the Assam Baibhav, Assam Saurav and Assam Gaurav awards for 2025 following a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Renowned singer Usha Mangeshkar has been selected for the Bhupen Hazarika National Award. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh. The government has also increased the cash prize for the Srimanta Sankardeva Award to Rs 15 lakh.
Dr Harsha Bhattacharjee has been selected for the Assam Baibhav Award for 2025, the state’s highest civilian honour. Four individuals have been chosen for the Assam Saurav Award. They are Dr Kushal Konwar Sarma, Padma Shri awardee Nuruddin Ahmed, Pulak Banerjee, and Dr Purnima Devi Barman.

.The award will also be conferred on the NGO Kalong-Kapili and Padumpathar Agro Organic Company. The awards for 2025 will be presented in December this year, while the awards for 2026 will be presented in February 2027.
The Cabinet has approved amendments to the Assam Mineral Regulation and Dealer Rules, including changes related to the classification of limestone and the distribution of royalty based on its quality.
Sintex will invest Rs 300 crore to establish a company in Rangia, with the project expected to generate 300 jobs.
The Cabinet has also approved amendments to the election rules for the Mising and Sonowal Kachari autonomous councils. The state government will request the concerned commission to conduct the elections in November.
