Police have arrested eight Senior Four students at Kigezi High School in Kabale District over an alleged strike during the ongoing Uganda Certificate of Education examinations, with investigations underway.
Eight Senior Four students of Kigezi High School in Kabale District have been arrested for allegedly inciting violence during the ongoing Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations.
Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime said the suspects are being detained at Kabale Central Police Station as investigations continue.
“The arrests follow a mini-strike at the school during which windowpanes and a CCTV camera were allegedly destroyed,” Tumushime said.
He said police responded swiftly to the incident and that efforts to arrest more suspects were underway.
Tumushime added that police deployment at the school had been maintained to restore order and prevent further disruptions. He described those involved as a small group of troublemakers who should not be allowed to disrupt learning for other students.
Meanwhile, headteacher Abraham Akampurira said the arrested students were among 11 learners suspended on Monday after allegedly being caught attempting to escape from the school over the weekend.
“The students were summoned before the school disciplinary committee, which resolved to suspend them. The students later returned to the school and attempted to destabilise operations, mainly targeting security guards,” Akampurira said.
Senior Four candidates started writing the Uganda Certificate of Educations examinations last week and the affected students have not yet completed the exams. The Nile Post understands the school will make arrangements for them to complete the exams.
