On. Oct 2, officers responded to a report of a theft from an historic monument in a rural area near Harry Elliott Road.
The brass plaque was stolen from the monument on or around Sept. 17, says the RCMP. The removal of the plaque damaged the stone monument.
The plaque is roughly 32 inches tall and 19 inches wide. It weighs around 70 pounds.

“The plaque is approximately 76 years old,” said the RCMP in an Oct. 22 media release.
“It was originally created by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada to commemorate the Ingonish-French River Portage route and the monument is maintained by Parks Canada,” the release stated.
Police are requesting that anyone with information about the theft, the whereabouts of the plaque, or other information that will support their investigation, contact Colchester County District RCMP at 902-893-6820. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, online, or through the P3 Tips app.
