Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has equalled Kylian Mbappe’s record for the most goals scored by a teenager in the UEFA Champions League despite his side’s 4-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.
The 19-year-old scored his 13th goal in the competition during Barcelona’s loss at the Parc des Princes, reaching the same tally Mbappe recorded before turning 20.
Yamal struck in the 79th minute, finishing past PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov to bring Barcelona level at 2-2 after the hosts had regained the lead.
It was his second goal in three Champions League appearances this season and his 13th in 36 matches in the competition.
Mbappe reached the same tally in just 23 appearances during his teenage years, giving him a higher goals-per-game ratio at that stage of his career.
However, Yamal still has time before his 20th birthday to move clear of the French forward and claim the record outright.
Erling Haaland sits third on the teenage scoring chart, having scored 10 Champions League goals before turning 20.
Despite Yamal’s milestone, Barcelona could not avoid defeat in Paris. PSG scored twice after the Catalan side had drawn level, with Vitinha and Fabián Ruiz finding the net to seal a 4-2 victory.
