Taiz – Yemeni sources reported continued clashes between government forces and the Houthi group on the southern and western outskirts of Taiz, in the southwest of the country, on Friday.
The sources confirmed that dozens were killed and wounded on both sides, mostly Houthis, in the clashes and airstrikes over the past 48 hours.
According to the sources, the fighting continues on the fronts of Sabr al-Mawadim district, south of the province.
Houthi militants stormed dozens of homes in villages in Sabr al-Mawadim, according to the same sources.
These developments come after the Houthis launched a missile attack on the presidential palace in Aden, southern Yemen, on Thursday.
This attack is the first on the presidential palace in Aden since the escalation of fighting in Yemen resumed last July, following the collapse of the 2022 ceasefire.
Aden holds strategic importance, as the government has used it as its temporary headquarters since the Houthis seized Sana'a in 2014.
A Yemeni minister told AFP that the Houthis struck the presidential palace with several missiles, adding that Prime Minister Shaya al-Zindani was inside the palace at the time of the attack but was unharmed.
An AFP correspondent in Aden witnessed smoke rising from the palace area and reported seeing ambulances entering the compound.
