Kimberly Guilfoyle will reportedly not receive a traditional farewell meeting with Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas following her abrupt departure as US ambassador to Greece, according to sources cited by the Daily Mail.
The former ambassador, who announced her resignation on Tuesday, would ordinarily be expected to make courtesy visits to Greece’s president, prime minister and foreign minister before leaving her post.
However, the circumstances surrounding her departure have reportedly put those diplomatic formalities in doubt.
A senior source at the US Embassy in Athens told the Daily Mail that the usual protocol for outgoing ambassadors would not be followed in Guilfoyle’s case.
The Greek president’s office reportedly confirmed that there were currently no plans for a formal farewell visit.
A senior aide to Tasoulas also suggested that Guilfoyle could attempt to arrange a meeting herself, although this remains speculation attributed to the source.
Abrupt Departure Shakes US Embassy in Athens
Guilfoyle’s departure has reportedly unsettled staff at the US Embassy, with some describing the circumstances as unusually abrupt.
One long-serving embassy employee told the Daily Mail that the change had been unlike previous ambassadorial departures, which were generally handled discreetly.
Another former staff member questioned whether Guilfoyle had received sufficient institutional support as allegations surrounding her conduct emerged.
The reports also described divisions within the embassy over her management style. Several unnamed sources alleged that she had disregarded advice from experienced career diplomats and created tensions among staff.
These accounts have not been independently established, and the allegations reflect the views of individuals quoted by the British newspaper.
Financial Allegations Precede Resignation
Guilfoyle’s departure follows reports concerning her financial dealings, including allegations published by The Wall Street Journal about a $100,000 credit card bill.
According to the reporting, Guilfoyle allegedly asked Trump donor Eric Deters to pay the bill shortly before her Senate confirmation hearing in July 2025. The report cited text messages in which she allegedly said the payment would not appear in financial records.
The allegations have added to scrutiny of her brief tenure in Athens.
A separate controversy involved a reported €1,586 dinner bill. The Daily Mail previously reported that the expense was ultimately sent to the US Embassy after questions were raised about whether it had been paid.
Guilfoyle has said she will vigorously defend herself against the allegations that preceded her resignation. The claims should not be treated as established wrongdoing.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who visited Athens for the US-Greece Strategic Dialogue last week, described Guilfoyle as a strong ambassador while saying he did not know whether the allegations against her were true.
Rubio Meeting Draws Attention
Guilfoyle’s final public appearance alongside Rubio also attracted attention in Greece.
Footage broadcast during the secretary of state’s visit showed the outgoing ambassador embracing Rubio on the airport tarmac, alongside Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis and Greek Ambassador Antonis Alexandridis.
The Daily Mail quoted an embassy source who interpreted the interaction as an attempt by Guilfoyle to seek support. That interpretation remains the source’s opinion rather than an established account of her intentions.
Guilfoyle, 57, took up her position in Greece on 4 November 2025, becoming a prominent figure in US-Greek diplomatic relations during her relatively short tenure.
Her appointment had attracted attention because of her previous relationship with Donald Trump Jr and her close ties to the Trump political circle.
Questions Remain Over Her Next Move
The Daily Mail has also reported claims from unnamed sources that Guilfoyle kept a private collection of material concerning the Trump family, allegedly nicknamed The Devil Wears MAGA.
The newspaper suggested the material could become relevant amid the fallout from her departure. However, the existence, contents and potential use of the alleged collection have not been independently verified.
Meanwhile, uncertainty remains over Guilfoyle’s departure arrangements and when she will leave her official residence in Athens.
Her resignation marks a sudden end to an ambassadorial tenure that had attracted considerable attention in both Greece and the United States.
Whether she will seek a formal farewell with Greek officials, and how she responds to the allegations surrounding her departure, remains unclear.
