INSPECTOR-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail has cautioned Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel against neglecting discipline and respect for senior officers, warning that the trend could weaken the force and damage its standing among other agencies.
He said respect for seniority appeared to be declining, raising concerns over the cohesion and strength of the police force.
“We are aware that the chain of command is a requirement. We must respect officers who are senior to us,” he said at the Inspector-General of Police’s monthly assembly organised by the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department at Bukit Aman today.
Mohd Khalid also reminded personnel to maintain throughout their service the discipline instilled during training at the Police Training Centre.
He said reprimands should not be viewed negatively but accepted as opportunities to learn from mistakes and improve performance.
“Being reprimanded is not wrong, but it should serve as a lesson so that officers and personnel who are corrected realise that a mistake has been made.
“Do not regard a reprimand as a sign of weakness. Instead, ensure that it is constructive and contributes to developing character so that we can carry out our responsibilities and duties as more capable, disciplined and integrity-driven officers,” he said.
Mohd Khalid stressed that personnel should respect one another, remain open to feedback and avoid assuming they were always right, adding that mutual accountability was essential to strengthening teamwork and solidarity within the force.
Separately, he said PDRM would hold its Integrity Day celebration on Nov 11 under the theme “Integrity in the Organisation Is Not a Choice but an Obligation”.
During the event, 35 police personnel who had rejected bribes while performing their duties would be recognised as examples for others to follow in upholding integrity in the service. - October 23, 2026
