DIMAPUR, Oct 21: The Naga Youth Movement (NYM) has called for a public gathering at Lok Bhavan, Kohima, on October 28, demanding time-bound implementation of the 2015 Framework Agreement and the 2017 Agreed Position.
At a press conference in Dimapur on Wednesday, NYM members said the movement had received no response from the Governor of Nagaland to two representations seeking action on the agreements.
Molung Naga said the first memorandum, submitted on July 8 with an ultimatum, expired on October 8. A second representation was submitted on October 13, but the movement had neither received a reply nor been granted an appointment with the Governor.
“After issuing an ultimatum and receiving no response, the NYM has decided to take the voice of the Naga youth and the public directly to the Governor of Nagaland,” he said.
Kuhuto Naga said the movement was not opposed to any organisation or faction, but wanted a clear timeline for resolving the long-pending Naga political issue.
Clarifying its October 13 representation, Idizeung Naga said the NYM had not demanded the Governor’s resignation in writing. He said the remark had been made verbally during a visit to Lok Bhavan, arguing that the Governor should resign if unwilling to work for the welfare of Naga society.
Hiketo Naga alleged that disunity and vested interests among stakeholders could be contributing to delays, while Ninoto Naga criticised sections of society for opposing the movement on social media without participating in its activities.
The NYM said its appeal extended to Nagas living beyond Nagaland’s geographical boundaries.
On its outreach to the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), Atoke Naga said he had visited the federation’s office to invite it to the gathering but was not granted an appointment. A subsequent communication had also failed to elicit a response, he said.
Atoke appealed to organisations and stakeholders to address misunderstandings through dialogue and work towards collective decisions in the interest of the Naga people.
The NYM urged the public to attend the October 28 gathering at Lok Bhavan, Kohima. For information, the movement has provided the contact numbers 6909925052, 6909002262 and 9863974036.
