SANKHUWASABHA: The Khandbari-Kimathanka road has resumed operation after the Nepali Army helped clear a major landslide that had blocked the route for three months.
The road, which connects Nepal’s northern border with China, had been obstructed by large boulders and debris in the Chhumsur area of Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-2.
The North-South (Koshi) Highway Project sought the army’s assistance to clear the obstruction and restore vehicular movement.
In response, a military team from the Chhumsur post under the 1 Development Group was deployed to the site. The team used controlled explosives to break up the massive boulders, enabling the project team to remove the debris and reopen the road.
Project Director Ram Bahadur Gurung said explosives were necessary because of the size of the rocks displaced by the landslide.
The reopening of the Khandbari-Kimathanka road is expected to improve transportation and access to key trade routes between Nepal and China. The corridor has faced repeated disruptions due to natural disasters and road blockages.
The restoration is also expected to improve connectivity for communities in the northern region and facilitate the movement of goods and passengers along the Nepal-China border corridor.
