Police officers fired tear gas to disperse participants at the sixth-anniversary memorial of the 2020 #EndSARS shootings at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos on Tuesday.
Among those affected were the Lagos State governorship candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Funso Doherty.
A video seen online showed police officers firing tear gas at the gathering, where the two candidates and other participants had assembled to honour victims of the October 2020 protests.
The politicians had joined other attendees for a wreath-laying ceremony in remembrance of those who lost their lives during the #EndSARS demonstrations.

The memorial procession was organised by the Enough is Enough Movement as part of activities marking six years since the protests against police brutality and alleged abuses by the now-defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
The incident occurred as participants gathered at the Lekki Toll Gate to commemorate the victims and reflect on the demands for justice and police accountability that drove the 2020 movement.
