Pakistan will not participate in the 2027 Over-50 Cricket World Cup in India after failing to secure government permission to take part in the tournament.
The event is scheduled to run from January 23 to February 7, 2027, in Hyderabad, India. Pakistan had been due to compete as defending champions after winning the 2025 edition in Sri Lanka.
Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association Chairman Fawad Ejaz Khan confirmed that the team would not travel to India. He said Indian veterans cricket officials had assured Pakistan of visa arrangements and high-level security for the tournament.
According to Fawad Ejaz, the association had sought permission to participate from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Interior. However, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi informed the association that permission would not be granted.
Fawad said the association respected the government’s decision and had therefore decided against participating in the World Cup.
He also expressed disappointment that Pakistan would be unable to defend its international title. However, he extended his best wishes to the tournament organizers and the participating teams.
Pakistan’s withdrawal means the defending champions will miss the opportunity to retain the title they won in Sri Lanka in 2025.
