Since launching in 2003, Taobao has grown from primarily serving users in China to now selling billions of products to buyers around the world
Today, Taobao offers everything from clothes and furniture to electronics, collectibles, and hobby supplies, including original Chinese brands and designs you might not find locally.
All this became easier with the launch of its English interface in Malaysia in 2024, featuring translated product descriptions and prices displayed in ringgit.
Now, ahead of its 11.11 sale, Taobao is taking things up a notch with some cool additions to its user experience:
1. Use AI tools to find what you need
- AI Try-On and Virtual Makeup: Preview clothes on your own photo and explore makeup looks.
- AR Room Placement: Visualise how furniture would look in your home before checking its measurements.
- Voice-Search-by-Hold: Describe what you need in English, Cantonese, or Mandarin.
- AI Shopping Assistant: Get recommendations and compare prices.
- AI Product Insights: Review summarised features, translated specifications, and pros and cons drawn from customer reviews.
2. Curated collections give you inspiration
- Easier browsing: Explore curated collections, Malaysian shopper ratings charts, trending searches, and visual navigation for ideas and well-rated finds.
- DISCOVER channel: Browse stores and products across 15 themed categories, including fashion, furniture, and toys, in the Chinese app.
- Curated selection: Discover more than 4,000 original-brand stores and six million products selected through AI and human expertise based on quality, distinctiveness, price competitiveness, and service.
3. Faster shipping and local returns
- Direct furniture shipping: More than one million furniture products, including sofas, dining tables, and height-adjustable desks, qualify for direct shipping to Malaysia.
- Tracking and protection: Track parcels and receive compensation for eligible lost or damaged shipments through Taobao Official Logistics.
- Easier local returns: More than 1,400 J&T Express return drop-off points will roll out progressively from November 2026 for eligible purchases.
- Faster 11.11 delivery: During the 11.11 sale, you can upgrade eligible orders to air shipping for only RM6, with delivery in as fast as five days in key cities.

The Taobao 11.11 Global Shopping Festival runs from 8pm on 20 October to 13 November, with these highlights in store:
- Free shipping with no minimum spend on more than 400 million products, including single-item purchases, plus free shipping across all fashion items.
- Up to 15% off sitewide through official platform discounts.
- Daily air shipping discount vouchers at noon and 8pm.
- Platform vouchers offering up to 50% off for Taobao English app users.
- Up to RM40 in new-user perks and up to RM30 in furniture shipping vouchers on eligible purchases.

Plus, actor Zhang Linghe joins this year's campaign with a themed app interface and daily treasure hunt!
Fans can also join activities at LaLaport Kuala Lumpur on 24 and 25 October and Xiamen University Malaysia on 27 and 28 October, with opportunities to redeem exclusive merchandise.
