Speaking at the event, CS Miano pointed to the need for coordinated effort across different levels of government and the private sector if the derby is to grow in reach and remain financially sustainable over time.
"As we celebrate the 33rd edition of this incredible event, our commitment to peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and collaboration remains stronger than ever," Miano said.
She added: "By deepening partnerships between the National Government, county governments, the private sector and local communities, we will continue to elevate events like this Derby's visibility and sustainability. Together, we are positioning Kenya as a premier destination admired not only for its wildlife, but for its resilient people and magical cultural heritage!"
Leaders at the event used the occasion to underscore the broader role that cultural celebrations play in shaping national identity, with themes of peaceful coexistence and mutual respect running through official remarks.
The Maralal International Camel Derby has long served as a flagship event for Samburu County, drawing attention to a region that offers a different kind of tourism experience — rooted in community, tradition and the semi-arid landscape of northern Kenya.
