Ohio State rises to No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports NCAA Re-Rank 1-138 and Brigham Young surges into the top three after a wild weekend that saw losses by Georgia, Notre Dame, Indiana, Alabama and Texas.
The Buckeyesfollowing their defeat of Indiana come in ahead of the Cougars and No. 2 Miami due to a tougher schedule and stronger résumé. OSU lost to the Longhorns in September but has posted road wins against No. 12 Iowa and the No. 6 Hoosiers in the past two weeks.
But the BYU win against Notre Dame ranks among the best by any team this season, justifying the 10-spot leap from last week’s ranking. The Hurricanes have a strong win against No. 18 Wake Forest and solid victories against No. 42 Clemson and No. 51 Florida State.

No. 4 Georgia and No. 5 Notre Dame drop three spots from last week. The Bulldogs lost 27-24 at home to Auburn, which climbed 12 spots to No. 26. Another two SEC teams made similar leaps in No. 13 Kentucky (up seven) and No. 25 Florida (up eight).
The re-rank was less kind to No. 16 Alabama and No. 17 Texas. Both teams suffered 10-spot drops after suffering their second losses on the year and have to quickly address concerns on offense to make a College Football Playoff run in the second half.
There’s also a new No. 138 in this week’s re-rank. Northern Illinois drops into last place after a blowout loss to Wyoming, becoming the third team to hold the bottom spot after Charlotte and Massachusetts.
