The Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) and the Business and Intellectual Property Authority (Bipa) are working together to improve tourism business registration and compliance.
An agreement signed on Friday by the two chief executives, NTB’s Sebulon Chicalu and Bipa’s Ainna Kaundu, aims to improve cooperation, information sharing and verification of tourism businesses between the two institutions.
NTB spokesperson Flora Quest in a statement says the partnership will help clarify requirements for business name reservations and descriptions of business activities.
“The partnership connects Bipa’s responsibilities for business and intellectual property registration and administration with NTB’s mandate to regulate the tourism industry and market Namibia as a tourism destination.
“The partnership will also help clarify requirements for business name reservations and descriptions of business activities, while developing procedures to make it easier for tourism businesses to register and comply with regulations,” she said.
NTB executive officer Sebulon Chicalu during the signing of the agreement said cooperation between public institutions is important in creating a more efficient business environment for Namibia’s tourism sector.
He said the agreement supports the government’s efforts to improve the ease of doing business in Namibia.
“The establishment of a joint working committee under this [agreement] will further ensure that both institutions engage continuously on matters of mutual interest and develop practical solutions that support sector growth while enhancing compliance and governance.
“Entrepreneurs entering the tourism industry and existing operators seeking to expand their businesses will benefit from greater clarity, consistency and efficiency in the regulatory environment,” he added.
