"We have asked her to resign. She has been a valuable employee," Katie Zacharia said during her first meeting with reporters at the White House.
Earlier on Tuesday, President Trump himself had been more cautious when speaking about Guilfoyle.
"We're looking at it," he said, according to the AP, when asked whether he was considering firing Guilfoyle, adding:
We are not happy.
Kimberly Guilfoyle, a former fiancée of the president’s son Donald Trump Jr. and a Fox News host, was appointed ambassador in December 2024, shortly after her relationship with Trump Jr. ended.
Last week, she was accused of asking a Republican donor for a private contribution of $100,000, which he reported. Guilfoyle is now being investigated by the State Department, according to media reports.
