Two professional mountain guides from Yuksam in West Sikkim, Lakshman Gurung and Aita Hang Limbu, successfully summited Mount Tenchenkhang, at an elevation of 6,010 metres, on October 7, 2026, as part of a technical mountaineering expedition.
The two guides were part of the rope-fixing team, working alongside Thundup Sherpa. The expedition also featured a 12-member Indian Army team from the 6/8 Gorkha Rifles.
Gurung was recently honoured with the Best Tourist Guide Award on World Tourism Day, while Limbu has previously summited Mount Nun and Mount Kun in Ladakh.
Both mountaineers are currently undergoing Mountain Guide Training at the Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Ecotourism (IHCAE), Chemchey, South Sikkim, under the SIKKIM INSPIRES Project.
