The Jammu and Kashmir Government has revised school operating hours across the Kashmir Valley in response to colder weather and changing seasonal conditions. The revised schedule, announced on Wednesday through an order issued by the Director of School Education Kashmir, establishes different timings for educational institutions within Srinagar's municipal boundaries and those located in other parts of the valley. Under the new arrangement, schools falling within the jurisdiction of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) will function from 10 AM to 3.30 PM.
Educational institutions situated outside the SMC limits, as well as schools in other districts of the Kashmir Valley, will operate from 10.30 AM to 4 PM. The revised timings are intended to accommodate the prevailing weather conditions as temperatures fall and daylight hours become shorter across the region.
The decision comes amid a noticeable shift in weather conditions across Kashmir over the past two days, with snowfall reported in the higher-altitude areas and rainfall affecting the plains. The changing weather, coupled with the gradual reduction in daylight during the colder months, has prompted the administration to adjust school schedules across the valley.
