Superstar guard Luka Dončić was busy during the Los Angeles Lakers’ opening night win over the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night.
But the most viral moment of Dončić’s night came after the game ended, when he was interviewed by ESPN’s Malika Andrews.
These two were all smiles and joking together throughout the interview, and an edited clip of the interview has amassed over six million views on X since it was posted on Wednesday night.
Andrews appears to be proud of how the interview played out. On Thursday morning, she posted a clip of her conversation with Dončić to her Instagram story, where she asked him whether him saying, “This is the start of something new” was a reference to the iconic “High School Musical” song.
“A little bit, for sure,” Dončić, who is a known “High School Musical” fan, responded.
Andrews, who is married to fellow ESPN writer Dave McMenamin, is one of the league’s most respected journalists, and has already cultivated a solid relationship with the Lakers superstar.
Lakers fans are definitely feeling like this is a new era for their team with LeBron James no longer around.
And it got off to a great start for Dončić and his teammates on Wednesday.
