The memecoin launchpad has partnered with Hyperliquid to let traders open leveraged positions, including on Bitcoin.
Pump.fun, the platform best known for launching memecoins on Solana, has added perpetual futures to its offering. The feature went live through an integration with Hyperliquid, a decentralized exchange built specifically for derivatives trading.
The new product allows traders to open leveraged positions of up to 40 times their initial capital. Reports describe the offering as extending beyond the memecoin tokens that built Pump.fun's reputation. Bitcoin traders can reportedly also access the leveraged perpetual contracts through the platform.
Fees for the new perpetuals product run as high as 0.10% per order, according to reporting on the launch. That fee structure sits within the range typically seen across decentralized derivatives venues, though it varies depending on order type and market conditions.
The move marks a notable shift for Pump.fun, which built its user base around simple, low-cost token creation and trading. Perpetual futures introduce a different risk profile entirely. Leverage amplifies both potential gains and potential losses, and 40x leverage means even small price swings can trigger liquidations.
By tapping Hyperliquid's infrastructure rather than building its own derivatives engine, Pump.fun appears to be leaning on an established decentralized exchange for execution and liquidity. Hyperliquid has positioned itself as a leading venue for on-chain perpetual futures trading, competing with both centralized exchanges and other decentralized protocols.
The pairing of Pump.fun's large retail user base with Hyperliquid's derivatives infrastructure could reshape how traders interact with both platforms. Memecoin traders accustomed to spot speculation now have a path into leveraged products without leaving the Pump.fun ecosystem. Whether that shift changes trading volume patterns on either platform remains to be seen.
This development also reflects a broader trend across crypto trading platforms. Many are expanding from simple spot trading into more complex derivatives products. Perpetual futures have grown into one of the most heavily traded instruments in crypto markets generally, drawing interest from both retail and institutional participants.
Market Impact
The integration could drive additional trading activity to both Pump.fun and Hyperliquid by giving existing users a new way to engage with the platforms. Retail traders who previously only bought and sold tokens directly now have access to leveraged exposure, including on major assets like Bitcoin, without switching platforms.
High leverage products also carry elevated risk. Leverage of up to 40x means that relatively small price moves can result in rapid liquidations, a dynamic traders should weigh carefully. The addition of derivatives trading on a platform known for memecoin speculation may also draw closer attention from regulators and industry observers tracking how leverage products reach retail audiences.
Pump.fun's expansion into perpetual futures signals its ambition to grow beyond memecoin launches into broader derivatives trading, backed by Hyperliquid's infrastructure.
