The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Benue State Chapter, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the State for its professionalism and commitment to credible elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Bright Antyo, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, stated this in a statement on Tuesday when the State Working Committee of the party led by Ezekiel Adaji, the Chairman paid a familiarisation visit to Mallam Aminu Idris, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) at the Commission’s office in Makurdi, Benue State Capital.
Speaking during the visit, Adaji praised the REC, management and staff of INEC in Benue State for the professional manner in which they had handled electoral matters.
He said the credibility of the voters’ register, the timely release of electoral guidelines and the commission’s openness to political parties were encouraging indications of its preparedness to conduct free, fair and credible elections.
The PDP chairman expressed confidence in the party’s candidates and the ability of INEC to conduct an election in which every vote would count.

He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to peaceful political engagement and continued collaboration with the electoral umpire to strengthen democratic practice in the state.
Responding, Mallam Idris, Resident Electoral Commissioner, thanked the PDP leadership for the visit and assured the delegation that INEC would remain an impartial umpire.
Idris emphasised that the Commission would provide a level-playing field for all political parties in Benue State, irrespective of political affiliations.
He urged political leaders and stakeholders to promote peace, discourage violence and encourage their supporters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to enable them to participate fully in the electoral process.
The REC reiterated that INEC’s allegiance is to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electoral Act 2022, rather than to any political party.
Also speaking, Shikfu Bewaran, Administrative Secretary of INEC in Benue State, commended the PDP for the visit, describing the party as well-organised, noting that it was the first political party in the State to visit the Commission.
The visit ended with a pledge to maintain constructive engagement with INEC towards peaceful, transparent and credible conduct of the 2027 general elections.
