Underground and illegal economy in Italy worth 218.2 billion in 2024 - Istat

(ANSA) - ROME, 16 OTT - The value of the non-observed economy, which is primarily made up of the underground economy and illegal activities, amounted to 218.2 billion euros in 2024, an increase of 0.3% with respect to 2023, Istat said on Friday. The national statistics agency said the non-observed economy's share of GDP fell to 9.9% from 10.2% the previous year. It said the value of the underground economy was 198.4 billion euros in 2024, up 0.8 billion compared to the previous year, while the value of illegal activities was 19.8 billion. (ANSA).
