Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki has been elected the new chairperson of the Council of Governors (CoG).
Njuki was elected on Monday, October 12, during a full council meeting held at a hotel in Nairobi.
He succeeds Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi, who has served two terms at the helm of the council.
Njuki, who previously served as CoG vice chairperson, will lead the council for an initial term of one year.

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka was elected as his deputy and will also serve a one-year term.
Although the constitution allows CoG chairs and deputies for re-election for another one-year term, the two, however, are not eligible for reelection as they will both retire by August 2027, as they are serving their second term as governors.
